MARY POPPINS will return to the West End on August 7th
Mary Poppins’ award-winning production Olivier will resume performances at the Prince Edward Theater on August 7, 2021. After more than a year of downtime, the company, led by critically acclaimed stars of the show Zizi Strallen as ” Mary Poppins ”and Charlie Stemp as“ Bert ”will begin rehearsals shortly before their return. Tickets are now on sale.

The magical story of the world’s favorite nanny arriving on Cherry Tree Lane was triumphantly and spectacularly brought to the stage with dazzling choreography, incredible effects and unforgettable songs. The stage version of Mary Poppins, brilliantly adapted from the wonderful stories of PL Travers and the beloved original Walt Disney film, has continued to be a smash hit worldwide since opening in London 16 years ago.
Mary Poppins was the winner of the Best Musical Revival award at the Whatsonstage Awards 2020 and the Best Set and Best Stage Choreographer award at the 2020 Olivier Awards.
Based on the stories of PL Travers and the original Walt Disney film, the cast is led by Zizi Strallen in the title role and Charlie Stemp as Bert. The full cast will be announced shortly.
Original music and lyrics by Richard M. Sherman and Robert B. Sherman include classic songs Jolly Holiday, Step in Time, Feed the Birds, and Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious. New songs and additional music are by award-winning British team Olivier George Stiles and Anthony Drewe. The book is by Academy Award®-winning screenwriter and creator of Downton Abbey, Julian Fellowes and this production is co-created by Cameron Mackintosh. The producer of Disney Theatrical Productions is Thomas Schumacher.
This production by Mary Poppins has orchestrations by William David Brohn with dance and vocal arrangements by George Stiles. It has new sound design by Paul Gatehouse and new lighting by Hugh Vanstone and Natasha Katz. The co-choreography is by Stephen Mear. The reinvented sets and costumes are by Bob Crowley. The co-direction and the choreography are by Matthew Bourne and the direction by Richard Eyre.
Obtaining government-backed contingency insurance to protect against further unplanned shutdowns remains a priority. All plans to reopen Mary Poppins comply with the latest government guidelines and are therefore subject to change.
