Moulin Rouge musical opening in London confirmed
After wowing critics and audiences alike on Broadway, Moulin Rouge, the opening dates for the London musical have been announced.
The Moulin Rouge, London’s musical, will come to life at the Piccadilly Theater with premieres starting November 12 with a press night on December 8, 2021. Join our mailing list for a ticket notification.
The musical, which features a lavish and immersive ensemble, follows aspiring writer Christian and dancer Satine as they fall in love. But pressure mounts on Satine as her boss, Moulin Rouge owner Harold Zidler, relies on her to appease the Duke of Monroth, whose money will keep the establishment running.
Baz Luhrmann’s iconic film comes to life on stage, remixed for today in a new musical extravaganza. Red Mill! Musical comedy invites you to enter a world of passionate romance and breathtaking splendor… a place where bohemians and aristocrats revel together in electrifying enchantment… a place where all your wildest dreams come true!

Directed by Alex Timbers (Here lies love at the National Theater, Tony Award®– nominated for Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson, Peter and the Starcatcher) Red Mill! Musical comedy has a book by John Logan (Tony Award® for Red, three-time Oscar nominee, including for Gladiator and The aviator), choreography by Sonya Tayeh (Lucille Lortel Prize and Obie Prize for Kung Fu, and Emmy winner), and musical supervision, orchestrations and arrangements by Justin Levine (Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson).
Throughout the pandemic, the production process has moved forward as far as possible, including hosting auditions for UK actors.

The design team for Red Mill! Musical comedy includes Tony Award® winner Derek McLane (sets; his credits include Magnificent – The Carole King Musical), Tony Award® winner Catherine Zuber (costumes; credits include The king and me, for which she won the Olivier Award for Best Costume Design), two-time Tony Award® nominee Justin Townsend (lighting), Peter Hylenski (sound), Drama Desk Award winner David Brian Brown (hair and wig design; credits include Come from afar) and Sarah Cimino (makeup creation). The cast is Pippa Ailion CDG and Natalie Gallacher CDG.
Bringing Red Mill! Musical comedy to the stage was a ten-year journey, spanning 3 continents, encompassing 75 songs credited to 165 songwriters, administered by 31 publishers, representing over 160 years of music, including recent hits released since the film’s premiere there at 20 years.
