Return to Stage Summer Theater Program in Hilton Head, SC
The Southeastern Summer Theater Institute is celebrating its return to the Lowcountry stage this summer with two classic musicals that will delight and dazzle: “Hello Dolly!” and “Crazy for You.” Both are fun and familiar and loaded with high energy, great stories, and exceptional and well-known musical offerings.
Ben Wolfe, founder and director of the institute, reports that SSTI – a nationally ranked summer training experience on Hilton Head Island for students preparing for a career in musical theater – has returned to its format. familiar and famous.

SSTI opens its 14th season with “Hello Dolly!” directed by world renowned artist and director Jacob Brent. As a director, Brent has directed productions around the world and is the Head of Musical Theater at James Madison University in Virginia. He is “best known for his many collaborations with Andrew Lloyd Webber, appearing not only in the 1998 CATS filmed production as Mr. Mistoffelees, but also in the production’s record-breaking performances in London’s West End and on Broadway. According to the SSTI website. The show will run on the weekends of June 25-27 and July 2-4.
SSTI closes the summer with Gershwin’s Tony-winning hit, “Crazy for You”. “With memorable tunes like ‘I Got Rhythm’ and ‘Someone to Watch Over Me’, says the institute, audiences will absolutely swoon over ‘the luscious melodies and the incessant tapping’. The production is run by SSTI favorite Joe Barros (“Tuck Everlasting” and “Bright Star,” which features “inspired and creative staging.” The production will run on weekends from July 30 to August 1 and from August 6 to 8.
Accommodation in the time of COVID
SSTI is operating under the strictest of Covid protocols this summer, ensuring that the cast and crew remain completely ‘bubbling’ throughout their stay on the island. They are being tested several times a week on site and a full-time COVID security officer will be on-site to oversee the security enforcement. The public can expect reduced capacity, reserved seats.
“Even with our new practices, nothing will replace that old feeling you get when the orchestra hits its first chords,” said Wolfe.
